BUET,
the name implies a true engineering university abbreviated as
Bangladesh University of Engineering and technology. BUET is considered
as one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions for pursuing
undergraduate and postgraduate studies in engineering, architecture,
planning and science for higher studies in the Bangladesh. BUET has a
long history. It started its journey in 1876 as the name of Dhaka Survey
School, and then in 1912 name had changed to Ahsanullah School of
Engineering. After the partition of India in 1947, it was upgraded to
Ahsanullah Engineering College, as a Faculty of Engineering under the
University of Dhaka. In1962 the name changed again to EPUET. After the
Liberation war of Bangladesh the university was renamed as the current
name The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in
1971.
BUET now maintains Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies and research. It has five faculties named Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Engineering under these faculties eleven departments are running. All the department have bachelor and master program and some offer PhD degree.
BUET has some well established institutes. Degree values of this institutes are also good. BUET leads the technological sectors of Bangladesh. Domestic technology like EVM, digital gas meter etc which are now using in various sectors of BD , are produced by BUET or under the supervisory of BUET.
